One of the best kept secrets along the Pacific Coast is Cannon Beach, Oregon. It is outrageously scenic with some of biggest sea rocks along the Pacific Coast. The beach itself is wide and compacted, making it a great place to jog, bike, or walk the dog. Every day hundreds visit famous Haystack Rock. The beach is very large, so it's uncrowded. At Cannon Beach you will see sand sculptures and kites by day and campfires at night. Large sand dollars can easily be found. If you can afford it, reserve an oceanfront room at one of the Cannon Beach hotels. They sell for about the price of an average room in a large U.S. city.
Just a couple of miles north of town is Ecola State Park which boasts one of the most scenic views in America - looking south at Cannon Beach. There is an easy hiking trail at the park with a view of a sea arch and offshore lighthouse. Bring a telephoto lens for photos.
Within Ecola State Park lies Indian Beach - a popular place to surf and boogie board. Hopefully it won't be raining or too foggy if you visit. Summer days can often be foggy and the winter days usually have some precipitation. Oregon is green for a reason.
