The Cascades in Central Oregon offer visitors an uncrowded getaway for a summer vacation. There are several scenic places near Bend, Oregon, making it the most convenient place to stay. Close to Bend are amazing views of Mount Bachelor, The Three Sisters and Broken Top.
If you don't want an all-day hike, try the Tumalo Mountain Trail which is a relatively easy hike if you want to get awesome views of these peaks. There certainly are much more challenging hikes in the area, but this one won't beat you up and it's not crowded. The trailhead is off of Highway 46, about a 1/2 mile east of Mount Bachelor Ski Area on the north side of the road. If you want great views of the Cascades with even less effort pay about $15 and take the ski lift up Mount Bachelor. There is a restaurant up there too.
The great thing about trail hiking in the Oregon Cascades are the lack of crowds, great views, and dry air. The only downside is the dusty trails, due to the volcanic pumice. Be sure to watch for fast-developing storms. You don't want to be above the treeline if it's lightning.
